What do to when you have a meltdown

Courtney Ley

I’m human just like you.

I have emotional meltdowns just like you.

I have days I think nothing is changing, just like you.

And I had one of those days last week. I had one of those almighty days, where nothing was going right. This day ended with me taking my progress photos and not seeing any change.

Well, that was it.

I was so frustrated and just mad…I was so mad!

And when I get mad and frustrated, a full meltdown is usually not far behind.

I kept saying over and over again, “why am I working so hard and getting nowhere”.

Does this sound familiar at all?

It's easy to get distracted by negativity...but you get to choose your direction

I know I’m not alone in this, because I hear it so often from my clients.

It’s funny to me that often people tell me, they didn’t think I would feel like this. But when you’ve come from a over weight background, I think it’s extremely hard to expect that you’ll never feel these emotions ever again. I do have perspective on most occasions but, no one is perfect. Sometimes we need to go through these feeling to remind us of what we have.

This was the case for me.

I was going through the motions week after week. I was pushing myself to the extreme. Every training session. Every meal prep. I was smashing it.

And I took it for granted.

Took what for granted you may ask…

I took all the little changes which were happening for granted…

  • The weight I was lifting increasing, so it was heavier and heavier every week.
  • The runs I went on, which I noticed more intense as I found I could run for longer.
  • Recovering better than expected from my workouts.
  • My clothes which felt more comfortable.
  • My skin which was clear and smooth

These changes seem amazing when I write them down. But on that day, if you had asked me if I had changed at all, I would have said no.

I would have said no, because the photos showed nothing. Not a difference. And because of that, I jumped to the most negative conclusion – that all my hard work was for nothing!

I can sit here now, writing this and know exactly how ridiculous this sounds. But we all know it happens so easily.

Therefore, I wanted to be honest with you all, and tell this story.

We all need reminder sometimes, and this was one for me. I want this story to now be one for you.

This week I want you to think about what little change you have noticed in yourself.

No change is too small. They all mean something.

Better nails and hair, getting through your workouts easier and therefore pushing yourself harder…These are both as important, and both are a sign you are on the right track and about to start seeing more change.

These are the things we take for granted. But not this week!

This week you are going to celebrate your changes with me :)
